Q. I was wondering if there is a quiet mode install option? Reason I ask is because we have used your product to create a corporate screensaver. We don't want users to have to select the install options. We will then use group policy to handle the time and pasword checkbox settings.
Q. Watching the flash movie in preview is wonderful - but if I build a FlashWiz Screensaver from this file, everything is OK, but there is a thick white line into the Flash Movie, positioned horizontaly at the top of the screen, from left to the right. This Line is not in the original Flashmovie, only in the Flashwiz Screensaver. What can I do?
Q. Im having a problem with the .ico file which is 32 x 32 pixels and 16 colours. Shouldn't the ico file be used for the desktop shortcut icon for the screensaver during installation and the systray icon? If so, they're not - they're both defaulting to the FlashWiz icon! Any ideas ?

Why $99, why should I get an update at all ?

Because we remove all silkmoth branding from the updated versions of your screen savers you get a totallyl bespoke look, with no third party involvement. This is quite rare in any application as the authors like to get credit somewhere.

There are some extra features that become available.

It also helps support the on-going development of FlashWiz. You can get the updated version by clicking the Purchase Update link from the menu on the left.

Does FlashWiz Support Flash 6?
Yes, FlashWiz now has the option of building a Flash 5 or Flash 6 compatible saver, we have left the Flash 5 option in there as the Flash 5 player is half the size of the flash 6 player, so your setup file will be smaller using Flash 5.
You say royalty free, what are the distribution terms?
When we say royalty free we mean it, you can distribute 10 copies or 10,000 copies of your built screen savers .
What features does FlashWiz have compared to similar products?
We will be uploading a feature comparison table soon. Watch this space. (we never got around to this, anybody want to to a non biased comparison review?)
Is there a manual or help system?

Yes, there is a HTML help system built in. You can also use the support forums to ask questions.

What are the freeware version conditions of use?
FlashWiz in versions 1.7 and above is now free for personal and non profit use. However, if you want to produce screen savers without our advert in the settings box and the mini "made with FlashWiz" splash screen you should purchase the updated version, for $99. from here
Can I distribute the Freeware FlashWiz creator on my website or shareware CD-ROM?
Yes, in fact we would encourage it, just don't charge a fee for FlashWiz FreeWare or break up the official installation. Also, keep an eye out for updates and new versions.
What is ImageWiz
ImageWiz is the new Picture Screensaver Maker. This is a seperate program that gets installed with FlashWiz that allows all the same great features found in the Flash Screensaver creator but for JPG or BMP files. We have included over 120 Special Effects for the transitions.
Will FlashWiz create a MAC screen saver?
FlashWiz and FlashWiz created screen savers are only compatible with PC computers, you will need to find a screen saver builder that runs on the MAC to create a MAC screen saver.
Does FlashWiz make screensavers that are self-contained? If my screensaver was made with Flash 5, what happens when I hand a floppy disk installer to a friend with a computer not connected to the Internet with only the Flash 3 plug-in?
Will the screensaver not work?
Yes, all the required file are packaged up in the SETUP.EXE, and it should register the flash player with windows as the saver is installed. so no flash player or internet connection should be required to use the screen savers you create.
I was wondering if there is a quiet mode install option? Reason I ask is because we have used your product to create a corporate screensaver. We don't want users to have to select the install options. We will then use group policy to handle the time and pasword checkbox settings.
Yes. You will have to be a registered user so you can use the custon install, then tick "Create Custom Install" and un-tick the 3 screens that can be displayed.
You have probably enabled the F12 web link in the FlashWiz, or have the F12 text Colour set the same as the background colour.
Im having a problem with the .ico file which is 32 x 32 pixels and 16 colours. Shouldn't the ico file be used for the desktop shortcut icon for the screensaver during installation and the systray icon? If so, they're not - they're both defaulting to the FlashWiz icon! Any ideas?
Some people rename ".BMP" files as ".ICO" to use on there desktop shortcuts, which works, but an ".ICO" file is not the same as ".BMP". Its just that windows have been made to do this. Try to use a bitmap? (FlashWiz will convert it to a ico file for you).
How do I make my own ".ICO" icon files?
To create an ICO file:
1) Create the image you wish to use in any paint program that can save as ".GIF" (32 x 32) pixles, windows 16 colours if possible so it will be displayed correctly in the task tray.
2) Save as ".GIF" file type.
3) Download and install Microangelo (shareware) Icon creation program from http://www.impactsoft.com/
4) Open your Gif file in Microangelo and save as ICO.

NOTE: Dont forget that FlashWiz will accept BMP files for icons and automatically convert them itself into ICO files, when needed.
I am trying to include a photograph in a screensaver. When stretched the photo looks pixelated. Is there a best practice when using photos for a screensaver that may be viewed at different resolutions?
There is an option to play the screen saver movie at the size it was created. In the "SWFMovie" page tick 'Keep Original Size'. Also when you publish your flash movie you may have to set the jpeg quality to a higher setting (done from within Flash).
I have a screensaver that uses FlashWiz. Everytime the screensaver launches it mutes the sounds. Any suggestions?
In the "SWF Movie" page, select the sound to be "Always On", then the Flash saver will not try to change the sound settings in Windows at all. If you set it to "Changeable" or "No Sound" then it will try to modify the main volume of windows.
How big should the BMP be for the settings box (in place of movie or preview). If it's too small, it gets stretched?
The answer is 320 pixles in width by 240 in height. (320 x 240) The same aspect ratio as a monitor screen.
How can I use something other than a large bmp (320 x 240 x 24kb) on the Settings Box?
When you "build" the screensaver it uses zip compression so normal bitmaps will reduce down to JPG sizes inside the installation file thus making your download as small as possible. Also, if you can convert it to 256 colours or less it will make your BMP even smaller still.
I made a quite intensive screensaver that works fine on my 1700 Athlon (on XP), but when I run it on a slower machine, it works fine (Windows 98, 233MHz) but mouse movements and key presses don't abort the screensaver.
Is there a way of making it more sensitive?
The best way you can do it, is to reduce the the quality of the movie, in FlashWiz. Sounds like you have "High" selected, which will use all you system power if it needs to. Try it set to "Auto High" (i.e. Starts off lower quality then changs to High its self, if your computer can handle it), it should look the same on your machine, but may not look quite as good on a system without much power, but it gives the system a bit more time to lookout for key presses and mouse movements.
The other thing you could do is streamline your SWF file, but that could be much harder.
I can't find the automatically loop movie function in flashwiz v1.7, but in version 1.6 I can find this function, why?
We have now made the movie playing in the screen saver loop on its own, as if your movie ever gets to the end and just stops it will not be very interesting. You can get around this very easy, just dont let your movie get to the last frame.
How do I add a URL link to a screen saver?
You need to send an FSCommand with the parameters WEBLINK,{URL}.
i.e. FSCommand(WEBLINK,http://flashwiz.co.uk)
This will then close the screen saver and load the default web browser to this page.
How do I remove a screen saver?
If you selected to include the start menu items when you buile the screen saver then you should find an uninstall icon in your "Start" menu i.e. "Start/Program Files/{My Saver Name}/Uninstall" otherwise, you will have to locate the directory your saver was installed manually i.e. "C:\Program Files\{My Saver Name}\Screen saver" and there you will find an uninstall.exe, which will remove all the installed files, except the uninstall.exe, because it can not delete its self.
If try to open a saved project and get an "'2.xx' is not a valid floating point value" message. Why?
This was due to some country's swaping the "," and "." around with in numbers and has now been fixed in version 2.50.
The buttons in FlashWiz about screen do not function. Why?
This will proberly be due to your font size in windows, as if you have large fonts set up - windows tries to move items around to fit things on the screen better, setting your computer to small fonts and restarting FlashWiz should fix this problem. If you like large fonts - you can set windows to use large fonts again after you have registered FlashWiz and all should work fine.
Having large fonts set up can cause similar problems in other programs, and we try to avoid people using them.
I have created a screen saver using a Flash 6 file but only get a white screen when the saver starts. Why?
You have proberly got "Flash 5 File" selected with in FlashWiz, Select "Flash 6 File".
